In a statement today, JTF said it also recovered a lot of weapons and equipment in the captured “heavily wired IED hideout.” “This latest encounter with the terrorist group has foiled its plan to wreck havoc on the good people of Kano State,” the statement said, adding that this development has further depleted the capacity of the terrorist group to operate. SaharaReporters also gathered that some sect members have fled to some villages in neighbouring Kaduna State. A crack security team is said to be carrying out an extensive search of that state based on a tip off as well as confessions of some suspected Boko Haram sect members arrested by security personnel in Kaduna. JTF said in the statement it recovered the following: Two AK 47 rifles, two Pump Action Rifles, one Berretta Rifle, one Smoke Discharger, 433 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, 80 rounds of 7.62 special ammunition, 2 AK 47 magazines, 36 prepared IEDs, 13 Laptops, two motorcycles, four Printers, one photocopier, one 33 slots Zenith Disc writer, one TG 3900Ez Generator set, Religious Books, large quantity of CD plates, two decoders, two Satellite dish, one 21’’ Television set, one DVD player, 2 Bags of Urea fertiliser, one Elite dry cell 12v battery, one blue gate UPS, ostabilizer, 10 Hand held Motorola radios and 5 Battery chargers.” Celebrating its achievement, the Task Force reiterated its pledge to work assiduously towards the protection of lives and property in the state. “The relative peace which Kano enjoys today can be attributed to the collective effort and prayers of the good people of Kano State,” it said. “Residents are therefore enjoined to go about their normal lawful business activity without any fear as security agents are ready and will respond swiftly to any treat to life and property in any part of the state.” Security officials were keeping mute today about their operations especially in connection with the trail of the suspects who have fled Kano.

U.S. Ambassador To Libya, 3 Others Killed In Rocket Attack-CNN

(CNN) -- The United States ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, was killed in a rocket attack on the American Consulate in the city of Benghazi on Tuesday, a contractor working at the mission said Wednesday after seeing Stevens' body.

Three American security staff were also killed, said the contractor, who asked not to be named for security reasons.

He said he saw all four bodies on the street Wednesday morning. The bodies are now in the Central Hospital in Benghazi, he said.

Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur appeared to confirm that the envoy had been killed, saying that Stevens was "a friend of Libya, and we are shocked at the the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi."

"I condemn these barbaric acts in the strongest possible terms. This is an attack on America, Libya and free people everywhere," Abushagur said on Twitter.

The contractor in Benghazi said he could hear rocket-propelled grenade attacks last night.

Libyans were also killed, the contractor said, saying the victims were shot on the spot.

The deaths came as protesters attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, angry about an online film considered offensive to Islam.

The United States has not confirmed the deaths.

Stevens was the American envoy to the Libyan rebel movement that overthrew dictator Moammar Gadhafi last year, based in the rebel capital of Benghazi.

A speaker of Arabic and French, he was among the first American diplomats sent to Libya in 2007 when the United States resumed ties with the Gadhafi regime.

The last time an American ambassador was killed by terrorists was in 1979, when the envoy to Afghanistan, Adolph Dubs, was kidnapped and killed during an attempt to rescue him, according to State Department records.

Bloody Sunday: Robbers Kill 2 cops, 7 Others In Lagos-PM News

Armed robbers went on the rampage this afternoon in Lagos and killed several people including two policemen inside their patrol vehicle.

According to an eyewitness who gave his name as Tayo Adeyeri, the robbers, who drove in two SUVs, a Toyota Prado and Armada, stormed several parts of Lagos, including a bureau de change at Agege, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, where they shot some currency changers and carted away two bags containing local and foreign currencies running into millions.

Adeyeri said he saw four people who were shot dead and that the robbers also shot two currency changers who resisted their attack.

Those that were shot but survived were taken to Mayfair Hospital at Oke-Koto but they were rejected and were taken to Motolani Medical Centre at Alfa Nla, Oke-Koto, Agege for treatment.

Our reporter was not allowed into the hospital to speak with the victims.

A stray bullet shot by the robbers also hit a six-year old girl in the eye and her grandmother on the forehead while they were watching TV in their home at 15, Alfa-Nla, Agege.

A stray bullet also hit a parked Volvo ambulance with registratyion number HL 355 AAA belonging to Motolani Medical Centre, and shattered the back winshield.
The robbers numbering eight, including two women who were driving the the SUVs, started their operation at about 10:35 a.m. from Ifako-Gbagada, Oshodi, Mile 2 and Agege.

P.M.NEWS gathered that while they were escaping in their SUV, a team of Rapid Response Squad, RRS, chased them with their patrol vehicle with registration number 5251.

The police team caught up with the robbers at Guinness bus stop along Oba Akran Avenue in Ikeja and the robbers opened fire on the cops.

In the ensuing gun duel, the police patrol team driver and another policeman were killed on the spot and the robbers escaped with their loot.

When P.M.NEWS got to the scene a few minutes after the gun battle, the two dead policemen soaked in their blood were still lying in their Toyota patrol vehicle marked 525 on both sides of the vehicle.

The identities of the two policemen could not be ascertained as the RRS Commander, CSP Kayode Odumosu, declined to pick his call when our reporters contatcted him on pnoe this afternoon.

Two LASTMA officials had earlier been shot at Oshodi and a police officer was also shot at Ifako Gbagada, according to eyewitnesses.

The state Police Command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, also did not speak on the incident when our reporter put a call across to her this afternoon.

Soldiers Outgun Boko Haram In Maiduguri, Killing 7-PREMIUM TIMES

Twenty four hours after members of the extremist sect, Jama’atu ahlis sunnah lil daawati wal jihad, otherwise called Boko Haram, dismissed the resolve by governors and traditional rulers in the north to fight the sect, and pledged to escalate attacks on strategic telecommunication sites in the north east and north central regions of the country, men of the Joint task force (JTF) in Maiduguri killed seven of them in a gun battle and arrested thirteen others along Gwange junction.

JTF Spokesman, Sagir Musa, said security officials were conducting a cordon and search operation at Gwange junction when men he described as hoodlums started shooting at them. “The task force had no option than to respond with fire,” Mr. Musa said, adding, there were no fatalities on the part of the JTF operatives.

Mr. Abu Qaqa, the Boko Haram publicist, had boasted in an email message Thursday that the resolve by governors and traditional rulers in the north to fight the sect, “will come to nothing.” It was the first, direct, and public, response of the sect to the top structure of the northern elites.

Keen watchers of political events in the region believe the recent outburst of the sect represent a welling up of frustrations at recent security successes in disrupting their operational plans and eliminating key elements in its leadership ranks.

In response to these developments, Boko Haram tilted its operational fangs by attacking and destroying telecommunication base stations in Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Kano states claiming it was its way of punishing the telecommunication companies for alleged culpability in aiding security agencies to kill its members.

“We are attacking GSM [telecommunication] companies because they have helped security agencies to arrest and kill many of our members, and we will continue with our attacks on them until they stop,” said Mr. Abu Qaqa in his public rationalization of the act of arson.

Countering the Boko Haram rhetoric, Joint Task Force officials argued in return that the difficulties the sect was experiencing had its root in internal power play of the sect, and queried: “Did they register their SIM cards as Boko Haram members?” the JTF official queried adding that security agencies have no need for telecommunication companies to arrest sect members.

INCREDIBLE CRASH!

A garbage bag, or "something," caused a Utah woman to veer off the road, drive through three yards, mailboxes, garbage cans and fences, then come to a halt halfway up a power pole. Jeris Herrera, 33, visibly shook up from her epic crash that left plenty of destruction in her wake on Tuesday, appeared to have trouble explaining how she -- and her car -- ended up suspended by a power pole wire. "I dunno if it was something... Garbage, garbage can, I'm not really sure what it was," the Millcreek woman told KSL. "Whatever it was, I wish I would have just hit that." The debacle unfolded at about 8:40 a.m. when she tried to move out of the way of the "something," and found herself in oncoming traffic, according to KSL. The swerved again to the side of the road and hit a curb, when she said her airbag deployed.

First Lady Patience Jonathan's Health Update: Illness Started In Dubai

By SaharaReporters, New York The “food poisoning” condition that landed Mrs. Patience Jonathan in a hospital in Germany reportedly started in Dubai eleven days ago where she had gone to see a doctor because her hands were twitching. Presidency sources said she had gone to Dubai after the recent African First Ladies Summit in Abuja, an event that imposed an unfamiliar and grueling schedule of meetings and late nights on Mrs. Jonathan, saying she needed some rest. Her visit to Dubai was explained as a vacation but our sources said it involved a medical procedure, while in Dubai, she reportedly had "food poisoning" alongside her medical doctor, soon after she returned to Abuja last Monday, the emergency broke and she had to be airlifted to Wiesbaden, Germany for food poisoning. Since SaharaReporters broke the news yesterday, the Presidency has officially kept mum about the First Lady's condition. Despite a media arm recently fortified to give Mrs. Jonathan a more aggressive press presence, it has provided neither denial nor confirmation. Last night, Ayo Adewuyi, the First Lady’s media aide, told us that he had himself only just returned from vacation, and pleaded for time to respond to our inquiries. When we called him today to find out if he had found out Mrs. Jonathan’s whereabouts, he confirmed that she was in Germany and pleaded to let him send a press statement regarding the issue. Several hours later, he insisted that he was still working on a statement. There have, however, been half-hearted denials and spins in some newspapers and blogs claiming that Mrs. Jonathan is only resting, but none of those outlets have provided her location or shed light on her condition.

Nigeria’s First Lady Hospitalized In Germany

By SaharaReporters, New York Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, has been in a hospital in Germany in the last four days, Abuja State House sources have told SaharaReporters, undergoing treatment for food poisoning. The sources say Mrs. Jonathan, who is also a Permanent Secretary in the Bayelsa State civil service, was airlifted to the hospital by an air ambulance in midweek under emergency medical conditions. Presidency sources stated that the emergency airlift departed for Wisbanden, Germany, but it is not clear if her treatment was being undertaken in that city. They said she was only able to speak earlier today, four days after her arrival, because the illness had been so severe that she lost her voice. Our sources could not say when she will return to the country. Nigeria’s political leaders and their families routinely seek expensive medical attention abroad, an irony occasioned by their failure to develop the same facilities at home. In the past few years, two former First Ladies have died on foreign hospital beds.
